Maddie Basso appointed Yahoo Australia's Head of Commercial

Mon, 3rd Jun 2024

Yahoo Australia has announced the appointment of Maddie Basso as Head of Commercial, a newly created role within the company. Basso will be responsible for driving Yahoo's overall commercial strategy across partners, resellers, and operations in the Australian market. Leading a team of 15, her primary focus will be enhancing growth in Yahoo’s joint business partnerships with agencies and advertisers.

Basso's appointment is effective immediately, bringing her extensive experience to Yahoo. She joins the company after a seven-year tenure at Captify, where she was instrumental in launching the company's first APAC office and served as Head of Sales. Her career in both the UK and Australian markets has spanned over nine years, during which she has built deep relationships within the industry.

Andrew Gilbert, Director of Commercial and Platforms at Yahoo, expressed his enthusiasm for Basso's appointment. "Maddie is an incredibly strong leader with a natural warmth that has helped her build and maintain deep relationships across our local industry from a standing start just a few years ago. Not only is she a fantastic business brain who will help our partners achieve their goals, she's also a strong people leader who is going to add a lot of value to our team. We're all incredibly excited to have Maddie on our team," Gilbert stated.

Basso herself shared her excitement about joining Yahoo. "I'm over the moon to be joining the exceptional team at Yahoo. Not only do they have many best-in-class tools for advertisers, they've also cultivated an exceptional culture that is the envy of so many businesses in the industry. I'm eager to help brands and agencies master this cutting-edge tech in channels like CTV and Retail Media as they look to navigate the ever-changing media landscape with confidence," she said.

Yahoo has been expanding its ad sales strategy and solutions teams in recent weeks with several new hires. Notable additions include Christian Shead in Business Partnerships, Declan Dowd in Platform Solutions, and Francesca Tichon in Strategy, all of whom are expected to bolster Yahoo’s capabilities in delivering high-quality services to their clients.

The strategic hiring spree comes as Yahoo continues to enhance its offerings to advertisers through omnichannel solutions and powerful data tools designed to engage brands and deliver measurable outcomes. With Maddie Basso's appointment, Yahoo aims to solidify its position in the Australian market and further its mission of helping partners navigate the complex media landscape.

With the digital advertising landscape evolving rapidly, Yahoo's focus on innovation and strong leadership appears to be integral to its strategy moving forward. Basso's arrival comes at a crucial time as the company seeks to expand its influence and provide robust solutions for advertisers aiming to leverage new technologies and platforms.

Although the commercial dynamics of the digital advertising industry can be challenging, Yahoo's continued investment in top-tier talent in key roles like that of Basso reflects a commitment to maintaining a competitive edge. The company's ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-changing environment will be closely watched as it integrates Basso's leadership into its broader strategic initiatives.
