Eight Sleep brings AI sleep tech to Singapore to boost wellbeing
Eight Sleep has launched its AI-powered sleep technology in Singapore, marking the company's first foray into Asia. The move comes as sleep quality continues to be a challenge for many in the country, with studies showing that one in three Singaporeans experience sleep disturbances and that the average nightly rest falls below international recommendations.
Market context
Recent surveys suggest that poor sleep is a widespread concern in Singapore. Adults in the country sleep an average of 6.5 hours on weekdays, significantly less than the recommended amount. Over a quarter of residents report poor sleep quality, and issues such as regular night-time wakefulness and sleep fragmentation are common. This environment presents a growing demand for technology-based solutions intended to improve overall wellbeing.
Product rollout
The Pod, Eight Sleep's flagship system, uses artificial intelligence to monitor and optimise sleep through real-time temperature regulation and data-driven personalisation. The device fits as a modular layer over existing mattresses. It incorporates sensors that track biometrics-including heart rate, respiratory rate, and various sleep stages-while automatically adjusting each side of the bed to users' preferences using a thermal engine.
The product is already used by over 400 professional athletes and applies health data to help with deeper sleep, cardiovascular recovery, and reduced wakefulness. The system connects with a mobile application to provide users with daily insights and smart coaching to adapt to changing sleep patterns.
Health impact
Among evidence referenced for The Pod's efficacy is a peer-reviewed study involving 54 participants observed across more than 300 nights. Results showed that users experienced measurable improvements in deep and REM sleep. Men recorded up to a 22% increase in deep and light sleep during the first half of the night. Women saw up to a 25% improvement in REM sleep. Cardiovascular data from the study suggested a 2% average decrease in resting heart rate-with some individuals seeing up to a 13% reduction-and an average 7% increase in heart rate variability.
Data collected from the wider user base indicates further outcomes: a 32% improvement in sleep quality, 23% fewer night-time interruptions, a 44% increase in speed of falling asleep, and a 34% rise in reported daytime energy levels. These results coincide with growing research highlighting the importance of temperature control in sleep health.
Technological features
Eight Sleep distinguishes its platform by integrating artificial intelligence and health monitoring. The Pod uses biometric data to deliver a sleep environment that adapts to nightly variations, including ambient temperature and individual user needs. Its new features, such as Autopilot 3.0 and Health Check diagnostics, provide further user customisation without the need for wearable technology.
The company is also exploring advanced sleep technology with products in development like the HyperPod, a sleep chamber intended for long-term health monitoring and efficient rest.
Singapore expansion
Singapore now joins over 30 markets globally where Eight Sleep is available. The expansion meets a rising interest in health optimisation technologies and smart home wellness solutions in the region. The system allows each partner sharing a bed to control their own environment independently, aiming to provide a more effective response to local demands for sleep improvement.
"Sleep is the foundation of health and longevity. Our goal is to bring clinical-grade recovery into the bedroom and help more people wake up feeling restored and energized," said Matteo Franceschetti, CEO and Co-Founder, Eight Sleep.
