CommBank campaign shares personal stories of overcoming doubt
A group of Australians have shared their personal stories of doubt as part of a new CommBank campaign highlighting the challenges faced and overcome in pursuit of personal and professional goals.
The campaign, titled "Doubt Never Did", presents real stories from individuals in sport, entertainment, and social enterprise who encountered uncertainty and setbacks throughout their journeys but persisted nonetheless.
Acknowledging doubt
CommBank Chief Marketing Officer Jo Boundy commented on the motivation behind the campaign, emphasising the universality of doubt and how it can shape outcomes.
"Doubt can hold us back – whether it's taking the first steps to start a business or savings goal, or hitting a roadblock further along in your journey. This campaign shows Australians they're not alone, and that doubt can be a powerful turning point. Back yourself and know that with CommBank in your corner, you can.
The initiative features three Australians from different backgrounds: Mary Fowler, Zoe Karatzovalis, and Shaun Christie-David. Each shares their experiences of facing and moving beyond doubt.
Sports and self-belief
Mary Fowler, known for her achievements with the CommBank Matildas, reflects on overcoming the pressure and expectations that accompanied her rise from Cairns to the international football stage. The campaign highlights her development into one of the best-known Australian footballers, exploring how she managed internal and external doubts.
Fowler's inclusion in the campaign is intended to resonate with Australians who might experience similar feelings of pressure in their own pursuits, regardless of the field.
Fostering inclusivity and resilience
Zoe Karatzovalis, recognised as the Yellow Wiggle, also features in the campaign. In addition to her entertainment career, she is the founder of Infinite Abilities Performance Arts, a dance studio focused on inclusivity.
Karatzovalis is known for her efforts to promote representation and encourage participation among people of all abilities. She shares moments where she faced personal and professional setbacks, explaining how she responded to self-doubt and the doubts of others while establishing her business and championing inclusivity.
Social purpose through adversity
Another participant is Shaun Christie-David, founder of Plate it Forward and Columbo Social, organisations centred on social enterprise. Christie-David recounts his experiences starting and growing these ventures, highlighting the role that uncertainty played in shaping his approach to business and community building.
His story involves navigating both personal and institutional obstacles in order to develop initiatives that benefit the wider community. Like his fellow campaign members, Christie-David reflects on the transformative potential of doubt as a motivator for action and progress rather than withdrawal.
Connecting stories countrywide
The campaign presents these stories through multiple mediums, including billboards featuring QR codes which link to full audio interviews. The interviews are hosted by podcaster Matty J, providing listeners with deeper accounts from those featured.
The campaign positions CommBank as a partner for Australians at all stages of their personal and professional journeys, regardless of the challenges faced along the way.
