Selangor platform tops 100,000 entrepreneurs in boost

Platform Selangor has surpassed 100,000 registered entrepreneurs on its PLATS platform. The milestone was marked at the Platform Selangor Awards Night 2026 in Selangor.
The awards programme, known as MAPS 2026, drew about 1,000 guests from government, state agencies, local authorities, industry partners and the entrepreneurial community. Organised by Yayasan MBI, the event recognised entrepreneurs for business growth and expansion.
PLATS forms part of Selangor's broader effort to build a digital entrepreneurial base, with support from the Selangor State Economic Planning Unit, MBI Selangor and local authorities. The state government has positioned micro-entrepreneurs as an important driver of economic activity and job creation.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari officiated at the ceremony and presented awards to recipients. He said the state would continue supporting entrepreneurs as business conditions evolve with the digital economy.
"Micro-entrepreneurs are among the key drivers of Selangor's economic growth. The state government will continue to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem through a comprehensive approach encompassing digitalisation, access to financing, capacity building and strategic networks, so that more local entrepreneurs can grow sustainably and remain competitive at the national and international levels," Amirudin said.
Figures released at the event highlighted a range of programmes run through PLATS and related initiatives. As of July, 571 entrepreneurs had joined the U-PLATS Digital Programme 2026, while 200 took part in the U-PLATS Digital Bootcamp.
Another 34 entrepreneurs joined the U-PLATS Halal Programme for guidance towards halal certification. A further 228 entrepreneurs benefited from PLATS Biaya, while 2,852 were given business opportunities through programmes and events organised by the state government.
Awards spread
A total of 23 awards were presented across nine categories, covering areas such as innovation, digitalisation, community development, women and youth leadership, and the use of technology in business. The ceremony's top honour, the Selangor State Micro-Entrepreneur Grand Award, went to Puan Norminah Binti Syafrial, founder of Minah Satay.
She received a trophy and prizes worth RM20,000 in total, comprising RM5,000 in cash and RM15,000 under the Selangor Madani Entrepreneur Fund. The selection reflected business development, use of digital technology and contribution to the local community.
Other prizes included the Community Micro-Entrepreneur Award, Young Micro-Entrepreneur Award, Technology Revolution Micro-Entrepreneur Award, Women Micro-Entrepreneur Award, Innovation Micro-Entrepreneur Award, U-PLATS Digital Outstanding Entrepreneur Award, U-PLATS Halal Excellence Award and PLATS Biaya Outstanding Entrepreneur Award.
MBI Selangor Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ts. Saipolyazan M Yusop said the awards were intended to recognise both achievement and persistence among local business owners.
"As the strategic investment agency of the Selangor state government, MBI Selangor, through Yayasan MBI, is committed to further expanding the impact of socioeconomic development through various inclusive entrepreneurship programmes and initiatives. With the support of our strategic partners, we will continue to empower local entrepreneurs to become more resilient, innovative and capable of competing in an increasingly dynamic economic landscape.
"I hope this recognition will serve as a catalyst for more entrepreneurs to take their businesses further, create employment opportunities and contribute to Selangor's economic prosperity," Saipolyazan said.
Digital focus
The scale of the PLATS network reflects Selangor's effort to formalise support for small businesses through digital tools, financing schemes and market access. The emphasis on micro-entrepreneurs also underscores the role of smaller firms in local services, food businesses and community-based trade.
By combining awards with training, funding and certification support, the state is seeking to show a pathway from informal trading to broader commercial growth. The inclusion of halal guidance, digital training and financing points to an approach aimed at helping businesses move into more structured markets.
For Selangor, one of Malaysia's most economically active states, the 100,000-entrepreneur mark offers a measure of the reach of these programmes. It also gives state-backed agencies a large pool of businesses for future policy targeting, especially in areas such as digital adoption and income growth.
The event also highlighted entrepreneur case studies intended to encourage wider adoption of innovation and digital business practices among local firms. The platform continues to link government, industry and entrepreneurs within Selangor's business support system.
The night's highest-profile winner was Norminah, whose Minah Satay business secured the grand award and RM20,000 in prizes.
