OpenSesame has added multi-topic support to its AI-based Curation Assistant, allowing learning and development teams to search and organise training across several skills in a single conversation.

The update is aimed at employers assembling training programmes that span multiple subject areas, rather than handling each topic separately. According to OpenSesame, a typical five-topic catalogue search can now be cut from more than an hour to a matter of minutes.

Learning and development teams often need to build training around a mix of needs, such as leadership, communication and performance management, while also accounting for different experience levels, languages and proficiency. The change lets users refine separate topic groups conversationally and filter recommendations by language, duration, audience and skill level without restarting the search.

The new function was shaped by customer behaviour inside the tool. OpenSesame said around 30% of chats with the Curation Assistant referenced more than one topic, suggesting users were bringing broader workforce learning requests to a system previously designed around single subjects.

Customer demand

The assistant is built into the OpenSesame Marketplace and recommends courses from the company's catalogue based on user-entered criteria. The catalogue contains more than 68,000 courses, and the feature is available globally to Marketplace customers.

OpenSesame presents the product as a way for learning leaders to manage more of their curation work themselves, while still using human specialists for projects that require deeper strategic or instructional support. The company said this reflects a broader effort to apply AI to routine work while leaving final judgment to people.

Its customer base includes Siemens, Sony Electronics and Align Technology. OpenSesame also works with content from more than 150 publishers and offers courses in more than 70 languages.

Demand for AI in workplace software has expanded from content creation and search into internal training and skills development, as employers try to adapt existing staff to changing business needs. In response, suppliers have increasingly focused on tools that help training teams assemble learning paths more quickly, especially when requirements span several departments or job levels.

Executive view

Josh Blank outlined the company's rationale for the update.

"Business needs don't arrive one skill at a time, and the technology learning leaders rely on shouldn't force them to work that way," said Josh Blank, President and Chief Product Officer, OpenSesame.

He also described how the company views AI's role in that process.

"The real opportunity for AI is to take on the repetitive work that slows people down while keeping human expertise and judgment at the center. By making it easier to find and organize content across a more complex set of needs, we're giving leaders more time to focus on the decisions that ultimately build workforce capability and drive business impact," said Blank.

Founded in 2011 and based in Austin, Texas, OpenSesame serves organisations globally through a marketplace for workplace learning content and curation services. The multi-topic expansion is now part of that marketplace for customers using the Curation Assistant.
