Exclusive: Cohesity's Greg Statton discusses the key to customer success
In the fast-paced world of data management and cybersecurity, Cohesity has emerged as number one, offering cutting-edge solutions to enterprises worldwide.
The company, headquartered in San Jose, California, has made significant strides in simplifying backup, recovery, and storage through its AI-powered data management and security solutions, which are designed with a keen focus on cyber resilience.
Greg Statton, who serves in the office of the CTO at Cohesity, has no doubt been a key figure in driving the company's data and AI initiatives.
A Focus on Customer Success
At the core of Cohesity's success is its unwavering commitment to its customers.
Statton, who has spent a significant portion of his career in technical sales and customer support, shared insights into how the company maintains strong relationships with its clients.
"We receive a lot of positive feedback from customers after implementation, often 90 days or a year down the line," Statton said. "They appreciate how much easier we've made their day-to-day management of data, and how we've helped them save money by reducing the infrastructure footprint required for data protection."
Statton also highlighted the company's ability to consolidate multiple data protection and security platforms into a single global management plane, simplifying operations for its customers.
"They love that everything just works," he said, noting that this level of simplicity and reliability has led to long-term relationships with many clients.
Innovating with AI and Cloud Solutions
One of the most exciting developments at Cohesity is the launch of its first-generation AI application, which runs on top of its Cohesity Cloud Services. This innovation marks a significant milestone for the company, which originally began as an on-premises solution provider.
"We've partnered with AWS to build a true SaaS offering that enables our customers to protect workloads both in the cloud and on-premises," Statton said. "It's a fully managed solution, all hosted within the AWS ecosystem, and it has gained substantial adoption."
Cohesity's AI capabilities allow businesses to gain deeper insights from their data through natural language interactions, akin to bringing the power of ChatGPT to their own enterprise data.
Statton explained that the company's AI solution integrates seamlessly with models available through Azure's OpenAI and AWS's Bedrock suite, providing customers with a secure way to leverage their data for operational efficiency.
Staying Ahead of Industry Trends
Cohesity has managed to stay ahead of industry trends, particularly in the face of rising cyber threats like ransomware. Statton pointed out that the data protection and management space had been stagnant for many years, with little innovation from legacy vendors.
"The rise of malware and ransomware has changed the game," Statton said. "Backup used to be a low-priority budget item, but now there are real financial implications for companies that aren't prepared for ransomware attacks. We've been able to provide a modern, elegant solution that allows them to manage all of their data safely, securely, and responsibly."
Cohesity's solution is not just about data protection but also about ensuring rapid recovery in the event of an attack. Statton explained, "Boards of directors are now asking about their companies' ransomware recovery plans, and it's gratifying to see our customers confidently tell their boards that they've invested in Cohesity and are prepared for any eventuality."
Leading the Charge in AI-Driven Data Insights
Cohesity is also carving out a niche for itself in AI-powered data insights, a space that few others have ventured into. "We realised early on that our data management and protection solutions touch all application data globally within a company," Statton said.
"This data is stored safely and securely for recovery, but it also holds untapped potential for driving operational efficiency."
By leveraging AI, Cohesity has been able to turn this data into a valuable resource for businesses, helping them gain insights and make informed decisions.
Statton added that while other companies are beginning to explore this space - Cohesity has a significant head start.
"We woke up to this opportunity 18 months ago, and we've been building on it ever since," he said.
"We're doing the real work of bringing data safely, securely, and responsibly to the next generation of AI tools, while others are just starting to catch up."
