Australia will host the 21st edition of the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2026. Matches will take place in Perth, Gold Coast and Sydney. Twelve national teams from the Asian region will compete in the tournament, which also doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
This marks the first time in twenty years that Australia has hosted the event. The tournament is expected to attract fans from around the world as teams vie for both the continental title and qualification for the next World Cup cycle.
Scope of partnership
CommBank's regional partnership with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) underscores its current focus on supporting football in Australia. The bank's involvement will support operational aspects of bringing the tournament to the country, and it extends CommBank's collaboration across multiple levels of the sport.
CommBank has highlighted its ongoing relationship with Football Australia, referencing its recent six-year arrangement to promote participation, increase access and develop football pathways nationwide. This football strategy includes backing for women's football programmes and initiatives to foster diversity in the sport.
The AFC Women's Asian Cup is viewed as an opportunity to further enhance the visibility of women's football in Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region. The collaboration also aims to unite communities through sport and to showcase the depth of women's talent in football.
