Carlsberg Asia accelerates digital growth with key eCommerce ties

Thu, 21st Aug 2025

Carlsberg Asia has introduced the Digital Acceleration Program aimed at driving future growth across its eight key Asian markets through enhanced partnerships with major eCommerce platforms Meituan, Grab, and Delivery Hero.

The programme seeks to adapt to changes in consumer digital behaviours that increasingly shape the way people discover, purchase, and interact with brands. With the Digital Acceleration Program, Carlsberg Asia aims to ensure its commercial model remains robust and future-ready by embedding artificial intelligence and data analytics into its core operations. The initiative also strives to refine beer experiences for new generations of consumers, both within Asia and in markets beyond.

Growth built on partnerships

According to Carlsberg Asia, last year's digital sales growth was driven by strategic Memorandum of Understanding agreements and a range of brand activations. The programme's objective is to integrate more closely with digital partners, strengthening Carlsberg's position in the regional beer industry. Going forward, Carlsberg Asia aims to increase the use of digital data and consumer insights to identify key beer consumption moments, deepen partnerships, and build cross-market synergy. The plan involves accelerating online-to-offline commerce and supporting local brand penetration through these digital collaborations.

"We see our digital partners not just as platforms, but as strategic growth engines," says Arindam Varanasi, Vice President, Commercial Asia, Carlsberg. "This is the boldest partnership at Carlsberg Asia to date. The success of our digital sales on eCommerce platforms last year is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation. By joining forces with Meituan, Grab, and Delivery Hero, we are eager to deepen these partnerships to unlock mutual growth opportunities."

João Abecasis, Executive Vice President, Asia, Carlsberg, also emphasised the company's forward-looking approach in building out its digital ecosystem. "As we move forward with our Digital Acceleration Program, we are looking forward to continuously making our Carlsberg brands portfolio more relevant, to build a digitally connected ecosystem that enhances every touchpoint of the consumer journey from discovery to delivery, also to elevate consumer experiences through convenience and relevance while reinforcing our commitment to celebrating responsibly."

Immersive forum in Copenhagen

Recently, Carlsberg Asia hosted a three-day strategic forum at its global headquarters in Copenhagen, convening senior executives from Meituan, Grab, and Delivery Hero. The event provided the digital partners with an immersive overview of Carlsberg's heritage, brewing practices, and long-term strategic vision. Attendees engaged in closed-door discussions with Carlsberg's executive leadership to align on growth strategies and consider new ways to drive distribution across online-to-offline (O2O) channels. A focus of the forum was on leveraging each partner's technological capabilities, data, and consumer insights to develop modern, scalable, and consumer-centric experiences.

Regional initiatives in China and Southeast Asia

In China, Carlsberg Asia is collaborating with Meituan to co-create what it describes as the next generation of beer experiences across cross-border markets. At the heart of this partnership are plans to integrate with Meituan's technology and consumer behavioural data to deliver real-time, occasion-based beer experiences, which will include 30-minute quick commerce delivery, personalised promotions, and curated product selections for customers.

In Southeast Asia, Carlsberg is working with Grab to further online-to-offline distribution, implement ongoing responsible drinking initiatives, and increase brand awareness by engaging with consumers around popular interest areas such as football events and music festivals through Grab's platform. This partnership intends to enrich experiences with partner restaurants by introducing special dine-in reservation promotions and bundled products.

Carlsberg's collaboration with Delivery Hero focuses on full integration of its premium beer portfolio within Delivery Hero's delivery network. Utilising channels such as foodpanda and pandamart grocery stores across Asia, the partnership aims to unite on-trade and off-trade segments, creating a seamless home-dining experience for consumers, complete with chilled beer delivered directly to their homes. Both companies plan to extend the partnership globally in the future.

Continued focus on digital consumer engagement

Carlsberg Asia's approach is underpinned by a commitment to use collaboration and digital innovation to strengthen consumer engagement across diverse markets. The company highlights its intention to build on these partnerships to deliver more immersive, data-driven campaigns and brand activations in the future.
